Storing Linens And Other Delicate Items

I just love to store my linens away after they’ve been washed and ironed. Placing a sachet of dried lavender flowers on the shelves will make your linens smell fresh and springy. You should always make sure that your linen closet is not close to any direct heat sources.

It is a good idea to rotate your linens and place the recently laundered articles on the bottom of the pile. If your linens must stay on the shelves for a long time I recommend refolding them from time to time and placing cotton or muslin sheets between your linens. The shelves should be slatted, as they will allow circulation. I would avoid cedar closets, as the wood contains oils that will damage or discolor your linens.

If you like the smell of cedar, be sure to line the shelves with paper and keep your linens away from the closet walls. It is not recommended to use cardboard boxes or plastic bag. When your linens  become discolored, you can wash and hang them is full sun. It will help  regain their whiteness. Colored linens dislike bright lights, so they should always be stored flat, in a cool, dry and dark linen closet. All borders or edges should be completely flat before storing .Do not leave your tablecloths exposed to sunlight for an extended period of time as the colors will fade.

If mildew happens to form, you should brush it off (preferably outside) soak your linens in water mixed with an oxygenated bleaching agent, wash them and hang them outside in full sun.

I hope your found these few tips helpful, and as  always I appreciate any comments or contribution to the information posted on this site.
